Fire strikes downtown Boston.

The fire breaks out in area of today’s Bedford Street and Kingston Street – the same area as the Great Fire of the previous November. It destroys 105 businesses, including the Globe Theatre on Washington Street, Chickering’s piano-forte warerooms, and the Chauncy Hall School, and causes $1 million in damage.
